Science

As a Science graduate I spent two years carrying out post graduate research in plant science, and I have always had a love of science and the scientific process. Working with children to encourage and support their curiosity about the world around them and how it works has been one of the greatest enjoyments of my teaching career, and I am always delighted to get back into the classroom and teach science alongside colleagues and with the boundless enthusiasm  of children.

Audits and Evaluation

I can offer a comprehensive audit and evaluation service which could include:
  • Auditing the current Science provision
  • Reviewing current policies, action plans
  • Evaluating the current provision for delivering the Science Curriculum to pupils in KS1 and KS2
  • Writing a report identifying key points of action

​Following the audit I can offer the following:
  • Support for SLT to develop and implement the school vision for Science as part of the School Improvement Plan
  • An update of key policies  and documents in line with statutory requirements and school priorities
  • Suggestions for developing the Science provision across the school including writing an Action Plan

Computing Subject leadership

I can offer regular support and mentoring for your Science subject leader(s), including:
  • Developing Science subject knowledge and confidence
  • Developing the role of a subject leader
  • Working with your current Science Planning and schemes of work to improve teaching and learning
  • Writing and updating Science action plans
  • Evaluating current Science resources 
  • Working with budgets, quotes and orders
  • Organising Science resources to ensure effective access and use
  • Teaching demonstration lessons and workshops
  • Carrying out work scrutiny and other monitoring activities 
  • Running staff INSET and CPD on Scientific enquiry and Scientific knowledge and understanding

Science Schemes of Work
I have developed resources and lesson plans using Hamilton Science and Switched on Science, both free schemes of work available online. I  can also support the effective use of other Science schemes of work and frameworks that your school uses.
Thematic Links
I am particularly keen to link science to other curriculum areas to give children a context for learning science. This also supports a problem solving approach and real world applications of science in the classroom and wider world
Maths and Science
Another area of great potential is to work with your Maths subject leader(s) to embed the Data Handling and Measures strands of the Maths curriculum into Science teaching and learning
